No Texting on the Rink

That should be a sign listed at the ice skating rink. It's my aunts' 23 birthday tomorrow so they decided they would have some fun going to the ice skating rink to celebrate on Saturday. I haven't been ice skating in years so I thought I would have a hard time adjusting again. I actually did quite well and got right on. It was so packed there and kids were going every direction. Maybe they should have a limit of how many can be on at once? Anyways, my mom kept calling me while I was on the rink and I never heard (or felt) the phone going off. Finally she texted me asking if I had found my wall flower. I responded yes and proceeded to put my phone in my pocket. The next think I knew, I was flat on my belly on the ice. Victor says my feet went straight up in the air. I sure would have liked seeing that. So lesson learned: Focus ONLY on skating while on ice. I only fell one other time after that :D

Before ice skating, my mother and I had some fun baking pies for the Holly Jolly Christmas Party at my church. Last Sunday they stated that they needed many pies and not that many had signed up. So, we doubled our fun. We signed up to bring 4 pies. My mom made 2 pumpkin pies and I made a sour cream apple pie and a sweet potato pie. They were quite delicious if I do say so myself. After making the pies, my mom made cakes for my aunts birthday (for today) and cupcakes with the rest of the batter for her Sunday night 3-5 year old class. Oh and to have a little more fun she made a banana bread. Never, I repeat, never do you want to be around my mom when baking. She gets cRaZy! Anyways, here are a few pictures for your enjoyment.

Pumpkin Pie (x2) and Sour Cream Apple and Sweet Potato Pies (before topping)

Sour Cream Apple Pie. We added a little cinnamon sugar to the top later for color.

Sweet Potato Pie. The topping was supposed to be marshmallow meringue topping. Well, it didn't quite puff up (forgot the small detail not to use a plastic bowl) Anyways, we couldn't make it again because we only had 1 egg and it was already time to leave. So, we spread the topping on and decorated the edges with whipped cream. Sprinkled a little cinnamon sugar for color and called it a pie. Presentation is key, you know.

The infamous Sour Cream Banana Bread

One of the trays of cupcakes (we didn't decorate them until today)

More highlights from the weekend:

  1. Pancakes with Santa at the Sachse Fire Station on Saturday. Went with the Chesler family to take the boys to see Santa and have breakfast. Yay for no tears!
  2. We have some pretty talented children at church that can sing.
  3. Dinner at Holly Jolly was good :D
  4. I sliced my thumb open cutting onions. I don't think I need stitches. Who knows?
  5. A gnat has been following me around.

Now, for finals. I'll be done Wednesday. Yippee!

I hear that your mom's banana bread is a must have recipe. The pies look yummy, don't think I got to try any, there were so many to choose from!
